NEW DELHI: Indian origin brother and sister duo, 14-year-old Ishaan Thakur and 9-year-old Aanya Thakur, living in Texas in the US, were recently in news for earning over $30K a month by mining crypto assets.
The story of the siblings was reported in CNBC where they explained that they began mining cryptocurrency in summer to learn the new technology and earn along with it.
The kids transitioned to environmentally sustainable resources for mining by developing technology which is 100 percent renewable.
The siblings explained that initially they had to shift to a garage for mining to prevent excessive heating and noise in the house. Now they prefer to use the garage only for building and testing mining rigs, and move to the air-conditioned professional data center in downtown Dallas after the mining rigs are tested.
The children told CNBC that they started with Ethereum coins and now mine three types of cryptocurrencies namely Bitcoin, Ethereum and Ravencoin.
The siblings learnt how to convert their alienware computer into a mining rig from Youtube videos. Their father Manish Raj Thakur sparked his children’s interest in cryptocurrency mining and even took a loan to facilitate their crypto activities.
As the kids gained command in mining, they could make $1000 by adding more processors and also added more equipment like SHA256 capable ASC antminers, along with Nvidia RTX 3080-Ti GPUs.
Ishaan feels that crypto mining is the same as mining gold or diamonds, where one mines with computers to find a cryptocurrency instead of shovelling to find a piece of diamond or gold.
