Students will be heading back to school next week and that also means a return to the playing fields for student athletes. Coaches at Forbush High School say they are excited for the start of a new school year and getting back on the court for fall sports such as volleyball and tennis.
“I’m looking forward to volleyball this fall for five big reasons,” said Forbush volleyball coach Ginger Hamric. “First, that is now we are not on a limited winter schedule as it was during COVID. Second, I’m excited about all my team being at school on all days and not cohorts or virtual. Third, we are excited about being able to play in front of fans not just 25 people as volleyball is a game of energy and we need that energy and excitement! Fourth, we will be looking forward to playing on our new gym floor, as we are practicing at the middle school right now. Fifth, we are looking forward to playing and being competitive in our new conference with the Surry and Wilkes county schools.”
Forbush women’s tennis coach Justin Vestal said he, too, was ready for the challenges of a new season and a new conference.
“Our team has had a great deal of success the past two seasons winning back to back conference titles so our goal is to continue that momentum. We graduated three outstanding seniors who will be hard to replace, but we return 13 players who are ready to step up and fill those positions. While there are a lot of unknowns as we move into a new conference, we are looking forward to the challenge and hope we can improve as both players and individuals as the season goes on,” said Vestal.
