Jay H. Corey, 62, of Bon Secour, Ala. passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at South Baldwin Hospital in Foley, Ala.
Jay Corey was born in Salem, Ohio on Jan. 29, 1959. Corey was a retired entrepreneur having had multiple businesses and many partnerships over the years. Initially he began working for Columbiana Foundry, 84 Lumber and then approached by Lowe’s Companies in Salisbury, Md. He rose through the ranks and was named youngest general manager, managing multiple locations in Virginia.
Jay was actively involved in the Standardbred Racehorse business since childhood. Helping his father who was a well-known horse trainer in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He also owned multiple businesses including restaurants which were eventually dissolved due to Jay’s declining health of a spinal condition. For health reasons and to be near his son they moved to Bon Secour, Ala.
He married the love of his life, Cheryl Ripple Corey, on Aug. 19, 1978. He was very proud of his 42-year marriage. They were inseparable and enjoyed traveling over the years in the Caribbean’s and throughout the country.
Jay was preceded in death by his father and best friend, Mr. Robert D. Corey Sr. of Columbiana, Ohio.
He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl Ripple Corey; two children, Amber L. Holmes and Preston R. Corey of Foley, Ala.; four grandchildren, Ayden Holmes, 18, Aspen Holmes, 15, Aubrey Holmes, 12, and Bristol Corey, 5. His mother, Mrs. Inez M. Corey, resides in Columbiana, Ohio. His best friends are sister and brother-in-law, Catherine McConville and Corporal Lester F. McConville of Millwood, Va.
He is also survived by three other siblings, Tom Corey of Dover, Ohio, Paul Corey of Canonsburg, Pa., and Bob Corey of Felton, Del.
Per Jay’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for immediate family.
