If you’re ready to dive into the recent cryptocurrency craze, you’re now in luck: your computer’s antivirus program will soon help you mine crypto.
NortonLifeLock has announced that its Norton 360 antivirus will soon have a built-in crypto-mining feature, aptly named Norton Crypto. The new function has already been made live to select participants in its early adopter program, which will tap into their devices’ GPUs to mine Ethereum that can then be stored in a wallet in the cloud. If you’re worried about not having enough computing power, Norton will also allow users to pool their efforts together and subsequently split the block up into individual earnings.
“We are proud to be the first consumer Cyber Safety company to offer coin miners the ability to safely and easily turn the idle time on their PCs into an opportunity to earn digital currency,” said NortonLifeLock’s chief product officer Gagan Singh. “With Norton Crypto, our customers can mine for cryptocurrency with just a few clicks, avoiding many barriers to entry in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.”
Norton says the full feature will roll out to all Norton 360 users in the coming weeks.
