An MP and the leader of a Ukrainian political party has revealed that her crypto trading income for last year was twice as high as her salary.
In an official declaration filing submitted late last month, Kira Rudik, a 35-year-old tech guru who won her political seat in 2019 and is the leader of the Holos (Voice) Party, revealed that she had sold her bitcoin (BTC) and ethereum (ETH) holdings for fiat in the past financial year.
Her salary as an MP was under USD 15,000, but she raked in over USD 18,000 from her bitcoin sales and about USD 16,500 from selling ether tokens.
On a previous declaration, Rudik had stated she owned almost ETH 32 and BTC 1, which she claimed to have purchased on (respectively) in February and March 2018, but it appears she has cashed in these reserves in recent months as her latest declaration shows no crypto holdings.
Her declaration indicated that she had made the crypto sales on the UK-based platform of the Coinbase crypto exchange.
Rudik is a rising star of Ukrainian politics. After building a business in 2016 that she sold to Amazon in 2018, she turned to the world of politics and was named Holos party leader in 2020, just a year after taking her seat in parliament.
However, she is by no means Ukraine’s only crypto-keen MP.
In 2020, Anatoliy Urbansky (45), who was recently pictured, reported Apostrophe, in parliament sporting a USD 31,500 wristwatch reported that he had a cool BTC 4,256.3278 (USD 253m). That, per crypto analytics firm Glassnode’s reckoning, makes him an official bitcoin whale – and takes him close to the coveted bitcoin humpback status (holders of BTC 5k and above).
In addition, Urbansky also revealed he has around the same amount of bitcoin cash (BCH) tokens.
