The XRP crypto appreciated more than 15% in the past 24 hours to nearly 74 cents.<\/p>\n<div id=\"1900144\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/investorplace.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/xrp-5-300x169.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1900144\" alt=\"A close-up shot of an XRP token with the logo and Ripple in raised text.\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1900144\" src=\"https:\/\/investorplace.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/xrp-5-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"A close-up shot of an XRP token with the logo and Ripple in raised text.\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\"\/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Source: Shutterstock<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coindesk.com\/japan-philippines-xrp-ripple-on-demand-liquidity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ripple announced<\/a>\u00a0that Japan\u2019s money-transfer provider <strong>SBI Remit<\/strong>, Philippines mobile-payments service <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/coins.ph\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Coins.ph<\/a><\/strong> and crypto exchange <strong>SBI VC Trade<\/strong> will team up to carry remittance payments from Japan to the Philippines using Ripple\u2019s on-demand liquidity (ODL) service.<\/p>\n<p>The move seeks to get a piece of the almost $2 billion that Filipinos based in Japan send home every year. The Filipino diaspora is one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/development\/desa\/pd\/sites\/www.un.org.development.desa.pd\/files\/undesa_pd_2020_international_migration_highlights.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10 largest in the world<\/a>, with more than 5 million of its citizens living abroad, Ripple said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the transactions are expensive for those ex-pats because Japan has one of the highest remittance costs in the world. \u201cIt\u2019s almost twice as much as the average of all the G-8 countries,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/ripple.com\/insights\/first-live-on-demand-liquidity-offering-in-japan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ripple said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Asia Pacific is one of the fastest growing regions for Ripple with transactions growing 130% year-over-year. It <a href=\"https:\/\/ripplecoinnews.com\/ripple-has-acquired-40-stake-in-cross-border-payment-company-tranglo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">acquired a 40% stake<\/a> in Malaysian cross-border payments firm <strong>Tranglo<\/strong> earlier this year.<\/p>\n<h3>XRP Prices Still Far From Prior Highs<\/h3>\n<p>Despite today\u2019s gains, the XRP crypto is a long way from its prior highs. But in a recent post, <i>FXStreet <\/i>suggested the XRP price could go to $3.50 if it were to hold a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fxstreet.com\/cryptocurrencies\/news\/xrp-price-can-rise-to-350-if-it-holds-this-key-support-level-202107131631\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">key support level<\/a>. On one occasion in Ripple\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/coinloan.io\/article\/the-complete-history-of-ripple-xrp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">nine-year existence<\/a>, XRP hit a price above $3. That was in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/the-ascent\/cryptocurrency\/articles\/7-things-to-know-before-you-buy-xrp\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">January 2018<\/a>, when it got as high as $3.84. The next-closest level it climbed to was $1.96 in April 2021.<\/p>\n<p><i>InvestorPlace\u00a0<\/i>technical analysis guru Bret Kenwell, <a href=\"https:\/\/investorplace.com\/2021\/07\/ripple-has-a-decent-chart-for-aggressive-investors-but-theres-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">writing on July 13<\/a>, suggested that XRP has a decent chart and could move higher.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNotice how [Ripple] rallied more than 800% from the start of the year to its highs in mid-April before being decimated on the downside. That said, the crypto does have some positives despite being down 68% from the highs,\u201d Kenwell wrote.<\/p>\n<p>On the fundamental side, c<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">rypto investors have been anxious about Ripple due to <a href=\"https:\/\/investorplace.com\/2021\/07\/ripple-despite-the-legal-saga-xrp-is-a-leading-name-in-cross-border-payments\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an ongoing lawsuit<\/a> by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). In December 2020, the SEC <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/news\/press-release\/2020-338\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">filed an action<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> against the company and its key executives for offering U.S. investors the XRP coins, which it alleges were unregistered securities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>On the date of publication, Robert Lakin did not have (either directly or indirectly) any positions in the securities mentioned in this article.
