Two-time heavyweight champion Tyson Fury is a phenomenal fighter and one of the biggest draws in boxing history. After dethroning Wladimir Klitschko to capture the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO belts and defeating Deontay Wilder earlier this year to claim the WBC and The Ring Magazine titles he became the only heavyweight in history to hold all the belts. He has previously held the English, Irish, British, Commonwealth, European and International titles. De La Hoya not only retired at age 35 but in doing so also minted Pacquiao, 29, as that rarest of bona fide pay-per-view stars. With consecutive wins over Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley and Juan Manuel Marquez, Pacquiao was, for a time, the best and most exciting fighter in the world.
Predicting which Olympic boxers will go on to be successful in professional boxing is a dicey affair. There are some amateurs whose abilities translate better to the pro ranks. For instance, some have big punching power but it is harder to knock out an amateur wearing headgear, and a knockout is a pretty definitive way to win a fight as a pro. That is shown not only in his style of fighting, which is genuinely exciting, but also the opposition he has faced and in some cases the conditions regarding those bouts.
Considering he’s way past his best and usyk is at the peak of his powers. Hard to say how much it mattered, but it does throw the fight into a slightly new light and might explain Loma’s unusually low output. Loma sucked, pretty much embarrassed himself, make him work for his next payday. I think a rematch will definitely favour loma over lopez so it should be interesting to see if it happens. Loma did certainly get going more in the second half of the fight. Partly because he got his rhythm going, out of urgency, and probably in part because Lopez lost a bit of steam which made Loma more confident that could step into firing range and still handle the power.
In January 2018, the WBA sanctioned the fight for their vacant Continental cruiserweight title. In front of 8,000 fans in attendance, Okolie scored a quick knockdown in the opening round, en route to a dominant one-sided unanimous decision win to capture the vacant WBA Continental title. In round two, after being warned a number of times, Chamberlain was docked a point for continuous holding. In round six, Okolie landed a right hand to Chamberlain, forcing his glove to touch the canvas for a second knockdown. After ten rounds, the judges scorecards read 98–89, 97–89 and in favour of Okolie. After the fight, Okolie called out Welsh boxer Craig Kennedy (16–1, 8 KOs) for a fight on the Anthony Joshua vs. Joseph Parker undercard.
Though he never won a world title, David Tua was one of the best heavyweight boxers of his era and was a massive fan-favourite thanks to his bob-and-weave pressuring style that was reminiscent of the great Mike Tyson. He was a massive puncher with a deadly left hook and an incredible chin to match, having never been stopped in his career despite facing most of the top fighters of his time. After a successful amateur career, Trinidad began his professional march toward the title in 1990 at the age of seventeen, winning his first 19 bouts to earn a shot at the IBF welterweight title. Trinidad knocked out the champion Maurice Booker in just the second round, then defended his crown fifteen times, in addition to scoring a first round KO over Troy Waters at light middleweight in a non-title bout. Those defenses included wins over Hector Camacho, Luis Ramon Campas, and the great Pernell Whittaker, with Trinidad becoming the first man to ever convincingly defeat Whittaker in the ring . He made one additional defense before being knocked out by Bob Foster in the fourth round, just his second ever knockout loss .
