Stitch is spotted on the Jonesville Greenway Trail for the first ever Trails and Treats event.
JONESVILLE — An estimated 600 people attended the very first Trails and Treats event on Saturday at the Jonesville Greenway.
“We were very excited about the turnout,” said Jonesville Town Clerk Wendy Thompson.
Local businesses and organizations had trick or treat booths set up along the greenway, located off Plaza St.
“One word describes Saturday’s event – amazing! We had the best time as vendors. The kids were awesome and everyone was having a good time,” said Nikki Hembree and Portia Hayes, representing the Yadkin Valley Sewer Authority.
Children and adults were decked out in a variety of fun, creepy and cool costumes. The early Halloween celebration got rave reviews from attendees as well.
“It was unbelievably fun and catered to the whole community,” said Jonesville resident Brandy Williams. “Kids and adults alike were having a blast, laughing and playing together. I had never been to the trail and dog park but I will definitely be enjoying time there with my family again.”
Thompson said the event was planned as a way to introduce families to the Greenway Trail and Dog Park, for those who have not been, as well as an opportunity for local organizations such as YVEDDI Head Start and the Goodwill Career Center to pass out information about their respective services. Providing a fun community event for families that did not compete with the actual date of Halloween was a goal as well, Thompson said.
“It makes me proud, as a Jonesville Commissioner, knowing our little town can put on a community event as successful as this one,” said Jonesville Commissioner Michael Tilley. “This event would have never been possible without the participation of local businesses, organizations, and Wendy Thompson and town staff diligently working to make the laughter and fun possible. I look forward to bigger and better next year.”
Thompson said the Trails and Treats event will become an annual tradition on the Greenway Trail to be held the weekend prior to Halloween. Next year’s event will take place on Oct. 22, 2022.
Vendors and sponsors for this year’s event included the Jonesville Town and Police Department, Food Lion, Hampton Inn, Yadkin Valley Sewer Authority, Yveddi Head Start, East Elkin Full Gospel Church, Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office, Nick & Kayla Smitherman, Explore Elkin / G&B Energy, Friends of the Jonesville Public Library, Jonesville History Center, Goodwill Career Center, C & C Auto Sales Inc., Arlington First Baptist Church, Jonesville Trail Association, Solid Rock Baptist Church, Unique Transportations, Jonesville Elementary PTO, Cypress Trails, Dirty Joe’s, and Nana and Pops Ice Cream.
