The Suicide Squad spoilers follow.
James Gunn is squashing one theory about The Suicide Squad‘s resident softie Polka-Dot Man.
The theory involves a scene during the assault on the Jotunheim prison where Polka-Dot Man, Harley Quinn, Bloodsport and a Task Force X assistant called Milton are caught by a barrage of bullets by soldiers from the Corto Maltese army.
Once the Suicide Squad take down the forces, Polka-Dot Man is overtaken with grief when he realizes Milton was killed during the gunfire – while Harley and Bloodsport struggle to remember anything about Milton.

One fan came up with an interesting theory that the scene was a tribute to legendary DC Comics writer Bill Finger – co-creator of Polka-Dot Man, and Batman – because his birth name was Milton Finger.
When this theory was shared on Twitter, Gunn was quick to shoot it down by replying: “Nope.”
The filmmaker went on to share a bit of insight on the emotional moment for Polka-Dot Man, explaining he wanted it to separate the character from his more ruthless Task Force X cohorts.
“I don’t think PDM thought about Milton much more than anyone else,” he tweeted. “But he’s always for grabbing an opportunity for people to feel sorry for him, thus their ‘connection.’ Talked about this w/ @dastmalchian before filming.”
