Writer/director James Gunn teases Polka-Dot-Man’s retro style in a new image shared on Twitter for the upcoming The Suicide Squad. Gunn’s film marks the tenth film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The story follows Task Force X, which is composed of an ensemble of villains. They are dropped off on an island with the mission of destroying a Nazi-era lab, and if they aren’t able to do so, they won’t be leaving the island alive.
Since The Suicide Squad is a standalone sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 Suicide Squad, Gunn has made a fair amount of changes. Task Force X now involves the likes of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Peacemaker (John Cena), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), and King Shark (Sylvester Stallone). However, the film also includes other villains, such as Polka-Dot Man, who’s played by David Dastmalchian (Ant-Man and the Wasp).
Earlier today, Gunn posted on Twitter to give his followers a peek at Polka-Dot Man with a new look. He also noted Polka-Dot Man’s real name, Abner Krill, and the location of Valle Del Mar, Corto Maltese. The image teases a retro look for the villain. See below for the post:

The Polka-Dot Man was previously referred to by Gunn as “the dumbest character of all time,” which is why he chose him for the film. The idea was to take a lame character and provide them with more substance and depth. The original comic version is a minor Batman villain. The Polka-Dot Man has no powers, but uses technology. He typically wears a white suit covered in polka-dots, which can be used to fight. The different dots on his suit are meant for different situations, such as creating a buzzsaw, an escape vehicle, among other pieces of technology. However, the film is making a lot of updates to Polka-Dot Man’s powers and suit.
Gunn’s tweet certainly stands out on a social media feed, especially given the image’s bright color. It features Polka-Dot Man in a very different look than fans are used to seeing him in. Rather than wearing the polka-dotted white suit from the comics and the film’s trailers, he has an old-fashioned look. However, he appears to be wearing goggles and has an indifferent look on his face. Since the Polka-Dot Man is now meant to be a depressed soul with a lot more personal issues than the once one-dimensional character had, this image seems to successfully capture what the filmmaker has told the world so far. Since the character is deviating so much from his origins, it’s exciting to see where Gunn will be taking him in The Suicide Squad.
