POLKADOT STINGRAY released their second EP titled Sekirara on May 26 but what’s just as exciting is the music video they’ve released for song Aoi. This is not only the first track on Sekirara, it’s also the ending theme for the anime Godzilla Singular Point.
Said music video has the band members take the form of guardian angels. They are given instructions on a screen stating to help people in need, to consult them, to not be detected, and to never touch them. This video documents what transpires as the angels watch over four human coffee shop dwellers as they leave the comfort of aromatic coffee-bean air to go about their daily lives.
Things get rolling as each human starts to leave the premises. First, its guitarist Harushi’s human who leaves first, a businesswoman, accompanying her to an all-important job interview. Then it’s drummer Kazuma Mitsuyasu who sets off behind the crossdresser. Next, its bassist Yuki Uemura who is paired with a seemingly suspicious old man who turns out to be a kabuki actor. Finally, vocalist and guitarist Shizuku is with the shy middle-aged owner of the cafe who is in love with the florist.
Each of their stories is fleshed out where you’ll see they help their humans out in different ways but this of course comes at a cost. At what cost, you ask? You’re going to have to watch till the end and find out!
The song, Aoi, is easy to listen to and heartwarming, which conveys a softer and lighter side to POLKADOT STINGRAY. It’s like a warm, comforting hug from a good friend you haven’t seen in a long time and there’s a sense of hope for better times to come. This, alongside the summery visuals, helps deliver that message.
Sekirara hit stores in regular and limited editions with the former featuring four songs including Aoi. It also includes Togemeku Spica (Tateyoko ver.) with the song rearranged in collaboration with animation company Kamikaze Douga. These are the masters responsible for the creation of their Keshin music video and anime Pop Team Epic. The limited-edition, also known as the Aoiro no Honne Pack, comes with the same tracklist but adds a DVD with their POLKADOT STINGRAY Polfest 49: Saishuu Ketchaku performance.
