An utterly strange fan-made action figure based on The Suicide Squad gets the stamp of approval from writer/director James Gunn.
Twitter user Readful Things uploaded an image of a homemade action figure of Task Force X member King Shark reimagined as Polka-Dot Man’s mother (played by Lynne Ashe). Readful Things tagged Gunn and Polka-Dot Man actor David Dastmalchian in the tweet, with Gunn responding, “This is gonna be big with kids this holiday season.”
One of the most heartbreaking and hilarious running gags in The Suicide Squad is Polka-Dot Man’s relationship with his scientist mother. As a child, she experimented on her children in the hopes of turning them into superheroes. Abner Krill was the closest thing to a success she had, infected with an interdimensional virus that lets him expel corrosive plasma blasts in the form of polka-dots. Abner killed his mother in retribution, but the trauma of the experience left him with mental scars that cause him to sometimes see everyone around him — from his own teammates to dancing girls to giant monsters — as his mother.
Despite the ridiculousness of the character, Gunn stated that Polka-Dot Man is possibly the most dangerous member of the Squad. During a recent watch party for the film, he tweeted, “Yeah, Polkadot Man is the most powerful, but I would take him he probably my second pick.”
The Suicide Squad is currently in theaters and available to stream on HBO Max.
