Attendees of the upcoming NBA Summer League games in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center will be able to purchase NBA Top Shot non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles in person. For the first time ever, NBA Top Shot fans will be able to buy an NFT moment from a game they saw in person.
NBA Top Shot Kiosk Will Offer NFTs at the Summer League Games
A non-fungible token you can buy online is one thing, but an NFT that can be purchased in person is something entirely different. On August 3, the firm behind the NFT collectibles called NBA Top Shot announced that exclusive NFTs will be available for purchase at the Summer League games on August 8, 9, and 10. Fans will be able to buy a “Moment in-arena” NFT, which will feature a single “great play per day from Summer League games.”
According to the announcement, NBA Top Shot fans can patronize the Top Shot vendor kiosk situated at the arena in Vegas. After the purchase, the unique NFTs will be sent to the customer and fans can also utilize the first Moments new Fandom tier. “Living between common and rare, the Fandom tier is designed to meet dynamic demand — driven by the love of the game and Top Shot events,” the Top Shot announcement notes.
NBA Top Shot NFTs stem from a joint venture between the National Basketball Association and Dapper Labs that started in the summer of 2019. Roham Gharegozlou, CEO of Top Shots, has said the product is a “revolutionary new experience in which jaw-dropping plays and unforgettable highlights become collectibles that you can own forever.” NBA Top Shots are minted with the Flow blockchain, a protocol that claims to be “built for the next generation of apps, games, and the digital assets that power them.”
Top Shot NFT Game Moments Will Be Delivered to Accounts
The offering at the Summer League games will be the first time game highlights will be available for purchase in the arena in NFT form at a game the fan attends. “These in-arena Moments will be available for pre-purchase for $5 each at the NBA Top Shot Kiosk by Section 111 of the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas,” the announcement details. “[They] will be minted based on the number of arena purchases on game day with a minimum Edition Size of 1,000.”
NBA Top Shot further says the fans will get a random serial of the purchase and they can buy ten per day. “These Moments will be delivered to collector accounts as quickly as possible, potentially even the following day,” the firm details.
The team behind the NBA Top Shot project is not the only NFT project to offer in-person NFTs. At the end of February, Bitcoin.com News reported on the popular trading card company Topps launching the “2021 Garbage Pail Kids Food Fight” series. In random packs of this series that were once available for purchase at Target and Walmart (now sold out), customers could get an NFT trading card in the deck.
