CHICAGO – One of the more fun, crazy and comic-book-like superhero films opening this week (August 6th) is “The Suicide Squad.” A band of imprisoned misfit rogues in the DC comics universe are sent on a suicide mission in South America, and if they accomplish the assignment they’ll be set free. David Dastmalchian portrays one of the rogues, the freakish Polka-Dot Man.
The characters of David Dastmalchian exist in both the Marvel Studios films and the DC Universe. He achieved blockbuster notoriety as the Russian Kurt, part of the “Antourage” in the Marvel Universe “Ant-Man” films, and has appeared in the DC series on the CW, “The Flash,” as the villain Abra Kadabra.

On TV, he has a recurring role on the rebooted “Macgyver” as Murdoc, and recently was in the Hulu series “Reprisal.” He will appear in October in the highly anticipated new film version of “Dune,” directed by Denis Villeneuve.
In a two-part interview via Zoom, David Dastmalchian talks about developing the Polka-Dot Man, and other adventures in his rising career.
In PART ONE, on director James Gunn and his connections to both DC and Marvel universes …
