LA VISTA, Neb. (WOWT) – The search for a missing 11-year-old autistic child has reached a critical level, La Vista police said Tuesday.
Ryan Larsen, a sixth-grade student, was last seen earlier Monday leaving school . He is 11 years old, white, about 5 foot 8 inches tall and has brown hair and hazel eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, an Old Navy shirt and was carrying a polka-dot umbrella. 6 News reports the child was last seen walking away from the school.
6 News reports the search is focusing near La Vista West Elementary and Larsen’s home.
Annette Eyman, spokeswoman for Papillion-La Vista School District, said Larsen went missing while moving from one class to another, and he had waved at her. The school has been searched multiple times, including with K9s.
Police Chief Robert Lausten said the department has spoken with Larsen’s family, who say he’s gone missing several times but not to this extent. Lausten said police have reason to believe Larsen was watching YouTube videos on how to hide from police.
La Vista Police called off the search for Larsen at 1 a.m. Tuesday and resumed at 9:45 this morning. Searches by Papillion Fire Department and Omaha Fire Department dive rescue teams Monday turned up nothing, Lausten said.
If anyone has information about Ryan that could help La Vista Police, call 911.
